NIX Solutions: Apple to End iOS 8 iCloud Backups

Starting December 18, Apple will officially discontinue iCloud backup support for all devices running iOS 8. The company has notified users of vintage devices that this change will also result in the deletion of all existing iCloud backups tied to iOS 8.

Data on Devices Remains Safe

While iCloud backups will no longer be available, data and applications stored directly on iPhones and iPads running iOS 8 or earlier will remain unaffected. Users can still access and use their devices as usual. Additionally, Apple has clarified that owners of these older gadgets can create manual backups on a Mac or Windows PC if they prefer.

Reason Behind the Change

Apple explained that this decision aligns with their efforts to better comply with the “published minimum software requirements.” The move is part of the company’s broader efforts to encourage users to upgrade to newer software versions or devices for improved functionality and security, adds NIX Solutions.

If you’re still using an iOS 8 device, consider creating manual backups to safeguard your data. We’ll keep you updated on any further changes Apple announces.
