Apple has released iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 7, bringing us closer to the final release of iOS 18.1. This version will introduce Apple Intelligence, the company’s new AI feature, available on select devices like the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and their Plus and Pro Max variants.
AI and Interface Updates in iOS 18.1
Among the most anticipated changes is the option to make clock widgets semi-transparent when app icons are in filled mode. This tweak aligns iOS 18.1’s design more closely with visionOS, Apple’s operating system for AR glasses.
On my iPhone 15 Pro Max, several Apple Intelligence tools are already functional. These include quick summaries of emails, notifications, and websites, along with Writing Tools to help correct grammar and adjust tone—whether friendly, professional, or concise.
The Mail app has new AI-powered features, such as Priority Stories, which highlight key emails at the top of the inbox. Quick AI-generated replies also appear as suggestions above the keyboard, making communication faster in both Mail and Messages.
Enhanced Photos, Search, and Future Updates
In the Photos app, users can now search for images by entering descriptions. Features like Clean Up remove unwanted objects from photos, and Memory Movies create video montages based on user prompts. Additionally, you can now record phone calls and have transcripts generated automatically in the Notes app.
The next major update, iOS 18.2, will introduce even more AI capabilities. These include Image Playground for creating sketches and Genmoji, which allows users to design custom emojis. Siri is also expected to receive ChatGPT integration, enhancing its ability to answer complex questions. Early next year, Apple plans to release Personal Siri, designed to offer personalized answers based on data from your apps.
