Apple may not be launching Apple Intelligence features in the EU. The region’s Artificial Intelligence Act, a set of rules for regulating the industry, has been signed by a number of major companies, including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google. However, the iPhone maker is in no hurry to do the same.
Collaboration with EU Regulators
Apple stated that it was “working” with EU regulators to provide users in the region with access to Apple Intelligence features. However, there is no indication that the company has made any progress in this direction at this stage. We’ll keep you updated on any developments regarding this issue.
Interestingly, the new AI regulations were agreed upon by 115 companies, many of which are among the largest players in the global AI market. Adobe, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Samsung, and Snap, among others, have agreed to comply with the current legislation.
Industry Compliance Challenges
The EU’s push to introduce AI controls got off to a rocky start, with tech giants Meta and Apple refusing to comply with the demands. All companies and industries will have to adhere to the rules outlined in the pact as part of the EU’s AI Act, which will be rolled out in stages over the coming years, notes NIX Solutions. The goal of the voluntary pact is to encourage companies to comply with the AI Act as soon as possible, according to Politico.
Apple and Meta are hardly friendly companies when it comes to a host of other issues. However, in their skepticism about the EU’s AI regulations, they seem to be on the same page.
