NIX Solutions: App Store Gets AI Review Summaries

Earlier this week, Apple released iOS 18.4 beta 2, introducing a new pause/resume button for active downloads in the App Store. However, this is not the only change. The latest iOS and iPadOS betas now include AI-generated summaries of app reviews, providing users with a quick overview of common feedback left by others.

This feature, initially announced last October, is rolling out to eligible app and game listings in the U.S. It requires reviews to be in English and a sufficient number of user reviews to generate a meaningful summary. Apple plans to expand support for more languages and regions over the course of the year.

How AI Review Summaries Work

The AI-generated summaries appear before user reviews in the App Store, highlighting frequently mentioned themes. It is unclear whether this feature will be available to all users or only those with Apple Intelligence-enabled devices.

To address potential issues with AI-generated content, Apple allows both users and developers to report inaccuracies. Apple may then revise or remove problematic summaries. To ensure freshness, the summaries will be updated at least once a week based on the latest user feedback. However, users can still read individual reviews and sort them by relevance or usefulness, adds NIX Solutions.

Other Changes in iOS 18.4 Beta 2

In addition to AI-powered review summaries, iOS 18.4 beta 2 brings other updates, including seven new emoji, Visual Intelligence for iPhone 15 Pro, new actions in the Shortcuts app, and a standalone Apple Vision Pro app. This version is expected to be widely released next month.
