Ahead of the imminent start of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed what he considers the most disappointing part of iOS 18. According to him, some of the generative artificial intelligence features in iOS 18 will be available only through a subscription.
It is not yet clear how much access to these features will cost, but it is likely that Apple will allow free use at launch. The company has already implemented a similar strategy with the satellite communication function for calling emergency services. Currently, these services are provided free of charge in some countries, but Apple will soon begin charging for them.
Partnership with OpenAI
Apple is expected to announce a partnership with OpenAI at WWDC. It is ChatGPT that will be used in most of the neurofunctions of iOS 18. According to Gurman, the company’s management is concerned about the potential reputational damage that could arise from the chatbot’s behavior. This concern is one reason why Apple will offer some features as an additional service. By doing so, the company can distance itself from any risks, allowing users to independently decide whether they need neural network technologies or not, notes NIX Solutions.
We just have to wait until June 10 to find out exactly what features will appear in iOS 18. We’ll keep you updated on all the latest developments as they are announced at WWDC 2024.
